August 22, 2014

The National Weather Service says a small tornado briefly touched down in southeastern Michigan, causing some property damage but no injuries.

Meteorologist Bryan Tilley tells The Detroit News that the funnel cloud with winds reaching 75 miles per hour touched down about 3 p.m. on Aug. 20 in Macomb County’s Lenox Township. The area is about 4 miles northwest of New Haven and about 30 miles north-northeast of Detroit.

Township fire department Assistant Chief Martin Hartway says the winds damaged four homes and three other buildings, including barns. He says no one was hurt.
