Relatives Rescue 81-Year-Old Indiana Farmer From Grain Bin

An 81-year-old southwestern Indiana farmer is out of the hospital after being buried by corn to the top of his head inside a grain bin.

Steve White says his father, Bill, and a farmhand were working at the grain bin when the corn fell on him Monday at the family’s farm near the Greene County town of Switz City.

White tells The Herald-Times he and his two sons used boards to keep the older man from being crushed until firefighters with rescue equipment arrived. White says his father turned purple during the 45 minutes it took to free him.

Township Fire Chief Bryan Woodall tells the Greene County Daily World that Bill White walked from bin with assistance.

Steve White says his father was released Tuesday from an Indianapolis hospital.
