FEMA Awards $15,000 Grant to Indiana Volunteer Fire Department

A volunteer fire department in northwestern Indiana has received a $15,000 federal grant to build an addition that will allow better ambulance response in its area.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky announced Wednesday that the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department received the Assistance to Firefighters grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Hebron Fire Department Chief Chad Franzman said in a news release the grant was needed because it has “stretched its resources to the limit.”

The (Munster) Times reports the funds will go toward building an addition and housing a second ambulance in south Porter County. Hebron is about 20 miles southeast of Gary.
