The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is donating breathing apparatus to Detroit’s fire department.
The self-contained units provide firefighters with oxygen in life-threatening situations and are scheduled to be presented at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Engine 50 on the Michigan city’s eastside.
In total, the 52 units are worth more than $30,000.
The foundation provides funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations. It has given $9 million to hometown heroes in 40 states and Puerto Rico, including more than $144,800 in Michigan.
Last month, the Leary Firefighters Foundation presented $260,000 in carbon monoxide detectors, thermal imaging cameras and other equipment to the Detroit Fire Department. That gear was paid for by proceeds from “Burn,” a documentary film produced by actor Denis Leary about the city’s firefighters.
