Michigan Arrests 451 Motorists in Drunken Driving Crackdown

Michigan authorities say they arrested 451 motorists for drunken driving during a three-week impaired driving crackdown in March and early April.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning announced Thursday that the number was a decrease from 510 drunken driving arrests made during a similar enforcement effort in 2013.

Officers from 26 counties conducted stepped up enforcement from March 12 to April 7, resulting in more than 13,700 traffic stops and nearly 8,000 citations and arrests. Those included 313 for other alcohol- and drug-related charges such as open intoxicants.

Counties involved included Allegan, Berrien, Calhoun, Chippewa, Delta, Eaton, Genesee, Grand Traverse, Houghton, Ingham, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Livingston, Macomb, Marquette, Monroe, Muskegon, Oakland, Ottawa, Saginaw, St. Clair, Van Buren, Washtenaw, Wayne and Wexford.
