Snow Melt Causes 3 Illinois Rivers to Rise Above Flood Stage

The National Weather Service has issued at least three flood warnings for Illinois as snow cover melts across the state.

Forecasters say the Little Wabash River near Clay City in southern Illinois is at 19 feet. Flood stage for the river is 18 feet. The weather service says minor flooding is affecting Clay and Richland counties.

In the Chicago area, the Des Plaines River at Riverside is experiencing localized flooding due to ice jams. Sunday morning the river was at 7.3 feet with a flood stage of 7 feet.

The Kankakee River also was high at 9.5 feet with a 9-foot flood stage. That minor flooding is affecting Lake and Newton counties in central Illinois.
