Broken Pipe Floods Columbus Police Headquarters

January 9, 2014

Columbus, Ohio, police were scrambling to maintain business as usual after a water pipe burst and flooded part of the department’s downtown headquarters.

Multiple floors in the building were reported to be flooded early Tuesday after a sprinkler pipe burst on the eighth floor because of the freezing weather. The building was closed to the public for the day.

Chief Kim Jacob’s office sustained heavy water damage and had about an inch of standing water.

Some personnel were initially routed to the county sheriff’s office. Police said no emergency runs would be affected, and there would be no changes to public service.

It was the second public water issue in Columbus this week. Frigid weather hampered efforts to repair a water main break Monday that flooded some downtown streets.
