Illinois Gets $1M in Federal Grants After Tornadoes

Gov. Pat Quinn’s office says federal aid for Illinois tornado victims has topped $1 million.

The governor’s office says Wednesday that federal grants following the fatal Nov. 17 twisters have reached $1.06 million.

The money is being used to help with disaster-related expenses, such as rent, repairs and replacing damaged items.

About two dozen tornadoes crisscrossed Illinois during a single day last month and were blamed for killing seven people.

Fifteen counties have federal disaster declarations from the severe weather.
