Indiana Works With Truck Stop to Improve Intersection

August 27, 2013

State highway officials are working with the managers of an eastern Indiana truck stop to improve the safety of a stretch of highway near the truck stop’s exit.

The second fatal accident at the location in 2 1/2 years prompted a meeting last week between representatives from the Indiana Department of Transportation, Love’s Travel Stops, local officials and two state lawmakers.

Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa says INDOT will be working with local police to collect more traffic data at the area along a stretch of U.S. 35 near the Interstate 70 interchange in Richmond.

Cappa tells the Palladium-Item the agency will also look into possibly adding better lane markings and signage at the intersection.

The truck stop’s owners say they’re working closely with state highway officials.
