Pat Murphy, former special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has joined professional services and accounting firm Grant Thornton LLP as a director in its Forensic, Investigative and Dispute Services practice, based in Chicago.
Most recently, Murphy served as the public corruption coordinator for the Chicago office of the FBI, and was co-lead investigator and later supervisor of an investigation that resulted in the conviction of 15 individuals, including former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. He also led the investigation of Michael Segal and his company Near North Insurance Brokerage, which resulted in the conviction of Segal and his company on fraud charges as well as a $15 million forfeiture.
Murphy will assist the firm’s clients in assessing internal and external threats, including fraud, theft and corruption, as well as implementing preventative programs.
