This was a gratuitous payment. Why do the survivors deserve any money? If this guy was “special needs” and had a spontaneous seizure, where’s the negligence?

The young man died from drowning, not a seizure. There should have been proper supervision/lifeguards on duty to prevent any drowning. The fact that the camp was for the special needs population makes the camp even more liable for a drowning due to a seizure because the camp would have known that this young man had a history of seizures and that fact would make him more at risk for drowning. There should have been more supervision. What a tragedy for the family, and for the camp. My heart goes out to everyone involved.

I am guessing that if the deceased had special needs, they were basing it on lack of supervision. I would be curious of the details surrounding what his needs were and what if any supervision was required.

He drowned. He didn’t die as a result of the seizure.
