Rural South Dakota Fire District Getting Used Fire Truck

A rural fire department in the southeastern South Dakota town of Tabor is getting a used fire truck thanks to a $141,750 loan from United States Department of Agricultural Rural Development.

The Tabor Rural Fire Protection District used the money to purchase a 2000 IH 2 1/2 ton fire truck with chassis and all the necessary apparatus.

The district needed to upgrade with something that can provide at least 1,000 gallons per minute pumping capacity to meet minimum state standards. The truck will replace two different vehicles.

Rural Development South Dakota State Director Elsie Meeks says the upgraded truck will make the fire protection district staff’s jobs safer.
