Ohio Numbers Show More Fatal Drowsy-Driver Crashes

Reports show an increase in 2011 in the amount of drowsy Ohio drivers who were involved in fatal crashes.

WBNS-TV in Columbus reports Sunday that Highway Patrol statistics show there were 3,403 crashes involving sleepy drivers in 2011, compared with 3,336 in 2010.

Those crashes caused 17 deaths in 2011 and 13 deaths in 2010.

The highest number of the 2011 crashes happened between midnight and 6 a.m., followed by midafternoon.

Males made up the highest percentage of drowsy drivers who crashed, followed by the elderly.
