Third Family-Owned Building Collapses in Missouri Town

A third building owned by the same family has collapsed on Sedalia’s Main Street in Missouri.

The Sedalia Democrat reported that the owners had operated a restaurant equipment business out of the buildings until they began crumbling.

The problems started in April 2009 when the back half of one of the buildings fell during the night. That led the insurance company to cancel the policy on the still-standing buildings. Owner Brad Kindle said he was unable to get another insurance company to open a new policy.

The second building collapsed in March 2011, and the business moved off Main Street the next month. The latest building collapsed Sunday night.

Kindle says he doesn’t have the money to fix the buildings. He has asked about signing the properties over to the city.
