The government says it will appeal a judge’s decision that awarded a North Dakota woman nearly $187,000 for an accident at the Minot post office.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland in October ruled in favor of Jacki Harasym, who says she was hurt when the door she was walking through struck her right foot.
Harasym says she sustained a contusion injury to the soft tissues and bone of her foot, which then mushroomed into a more serious, chronic condition known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy.
Hovland ordered that Harasym be paid about $37,000 in past economic damages, $50,000 in future economic damages, and $100,000 in non-economic damages.
Prosecutors filed notice earlier this week of their appeal with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
