Elderly N.D. Woman Reaches Settlement in Fatal Crash

The two sides in a civil lawsuit involving a 94-year-old North Dakota woman who was involved in a fatal vehicle accident have reached a settlement.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that court documents show Faith Mitzel has reached an agreement with plaintiffs James Leidholt and Jason Hunter. Details have not been released.

Mitzel was never criminally charged in a May 2010 incident in which authorities say her car crossed the center line on state Highway 57 near Fort Totten and sideswiped two motorcycles, injuring Leidholt and Hunter and killing Leidholt’s pregnant wife. The Oberon woman was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road and had her license suspended. Three months later she was ticketed for driving with a suspended license and no insurance, and later fined.
