Trial Delay for Nebraska Woman in School District Fire

A trial has been delayed for a former Lincoln Public Schools worker accused of starting a fire that destroyed the district’s headquarters.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports a Lancaster County district judge has granted a delay in Sharon Brewster’s case. The 44-year-old woman has been scheduled to stand trial for arson on Monday.

Prosecutors allege that Brewster set flame to some papers on May 30 on a supervisor’s desk over frustration about how she was being treated. The fire caused an estimated $20 million in damage.

Brewster has pleaded not guilty.

If she were convicted of the arson charge, Brewster would face up to 20 years in prison.
