Death of Michigan Man Who Fell From Boat Ruled Accidental

October 27, 2011

Police say the death of a 47-year-old man who fell from his docked boat in the northwestern Lower Peninsula was an accidental drowning.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports toxicology tests found that David Boekeloo’s blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit for driving in Michigan. Officials had been awaiting the tests before making a determination about his Oct. 13 death.

The Beulah man owned a local investment company and served as president of Benzie County’s Chamber of Commerce.

Boekeloo’s body was pulled from Betsie Bay at Gold Coast Marina in Frankfort. It was found near his 32-foot boat about 45 minutes after an acquaintance called 911.
