Fire at Closed Missouri School Determined to be Arson

June 1, 2011

Firefighters say a three-alarm blaze that caused $250,000 damage at a closed Kansas City school was intentionally set.

Fire Department spokesman Joe Vitale says the fire at the former Manchester school started around 5 p.m. Saturday and quickly spread across the building.

The Kansas City Star reports the building was abandoned and nobody was injured in the blaze.

The vacant building is one of several the Kansas City School District put on the market and had recently been sold.
