Both accident engines were operated at least a 100% past the manufacturer’s limit. The official cause of the accident was pilot error. It was up to the lawyers to find the stupidist judge and jury possable to overlook the facts. The reason the pilot could not feather the failed engine in accordance with the published emergency procedure is the Hartzell propeller. It has a known problem with the low pitch stops. Airplanes don’t kill people, pilots do.
