In many states a close relative or person with a close relationship are able to collect on a liability policy for seeing a person injured/killed in an incident. Rule followed is if that person falls within the zone of danger. Most follow that it must be witnessed first hand and not come upon or be told about the incident.

Because of Michigan’s very strong no-fault auto laws, the typical pltf’s auto case is a PIP rip-off. Unlimited PIP (3 years for wages) in MI and the usual deal is you offer to settle the “contested” PIP on the basis of past, present and future, PIP exposures. The ordinary outcome is about 25K for your typical soft tissue case. They always allege PTSD and there is an entire industry of so called therapists and report writers supporting these deceptions. Glad I’m retired
