Iowan Wins More Than $2.3M from Former Employer

A 55-year-old Iowa woman has won more than $2.3 million from her lawsuit against her employer.

The Monroe County jury verdict came in the case filed by Debi Erwine, of Batavia, against UGL Services Unicco Operations Co. and a former supervisor.

The Des Moines Register says Erwine’s lawsuit alleged sex discrimination against her while she was overseeing maintenance and cleaning crews at the Cargill plant in Eddyville.

Among the documents, one says Erwine’s supervisor demoted her in July 2008 because he “needed a man in that position so that he would be able to understand the mechanical aspects.”

Erwine was fired in December 2008. She sued in September 2009.
