This was not only Discover, check your other cards. This happened on 5 of my credit cards including gas cards. Some never called and those that did just added it despite the fact that I declined. Discover is the tip of the iceberg. Hurray for the DA of MN. Keep going!

I would just like to say that it’s about time someone puts Discover in their place. Several years ago I became very active in my elderly parents finances due to mom’s sudden illness. I found Discover had been charging their account for “protection” in case dad lost his job. My dad had been retired for several years! My dad did not even know about the card mom opened in his name! I called Discover and asked who authorized the charges to the account and was informed, “Mr. Utt” did. When I informed them that Mr. Utt did not know the card existed in his name until a few weeks prior, I was quizically informed “Mrs. Utt?” I was never able to get any of the charges taken off the account. My parents were bilked out of several hundred dollars for a protection plan they would have never used! My dad who has since passed away, had to use his 401k money to pay off the Discover card. I would never have a Discover card based on how my parents were treated by these people!

I find it hard to believe that a credit card company would act so irresponsibly in order to increase profits.

My wife’s Penneys card had the same issues several years back. It took a lot of work to get the “service” cancelled and we never did get the money back.
