This doesn’t qualify for any federal assistance. The fact of the matter is that the inidgent black population (all of Highland Park) has nothing better to do than burn vacant buildings down. (the reference to blacks is not racist, just fact). If a city/state can’t police it’s own population, they need a new government. Tax dollars from other states should not be wasted on Highland Park’s problems. Hopefully, the governor will have enough common sense to quash susch a ridiculous request.

And what if the city was predominately white ? Would you have said the same thing. The fact is that Highland Park DOES have a major problem, but race has nothing to do with it. Think about it when you go to church this Sunday.
Bhlben – if the city was predominantly white, we wouldn’t be having this discussion because whites don’t torch their cities like the people in the D-Troit area. Like Eli says, it’s simply a fact. Ever hear about “Devil’s Night”? That’s what D-Troiters to on Halloween……torch vacant homes. They think it’s fun. Although the D-Troit area is a “disaster”, it’s not the type of disaster contemplated for federal aid. Those are “natural”, “un-planned” occurrences. Good luck trying to muster some sympathy for this kind of behavior.

Fact is, from reading these comments, it’s clear none of you are Michiganders. None of you are aware of the ethinic make up of Highland Park. None of you are involved in the area and actuially understand what is going on. You assume, remember old aticles and think you know because you heard something about our city.
Hold on a minute Ms. know it all. I lived and worked in MI for 7 years and was active on a committee for the re-development Detroit, and a committee for the African American Cultural Museum. My comments are in fact accurate. My comments were not an indictment of all blacks. But I’m not one for being “PC”. It is what it is. I don’t see any other ethnic group doing kind of thing.
