More Than 20% of Nebraska 2009 Personal Lines Claims Closed Unpaid

The Nebraska Department of Insurance Market Conduct Annual Statement (MCAS) for the 2009 property/casualty insurance market shows that 20.5 percent of private passenger automobile insurance claims were closed without payment and 26.8 percent of homeowners claims were similarly handled.

For Nebraska’s 2009 property/casualty MCAS, licensed companies with at least $50,000 in subject homeowner’s and/or private passenger automobile premium were required to participate in the project in Nebraska. The Nebraska Department of Insurance received 104 private passenger automobile statements and 90 homeowner’s statements.

Statement averages are calculated for seven categories for both the private passenger automobile and homeowner’s portions of the property/casualty MCAS.
