Wisconsin Worker Alleges Discrimination

A former clerk at a Woodman’s Food Markets gas station in Beloit alleges the Janesville, Wis., company discriminated against her because of her disability.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleges in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Madison against Woodman’s that it fired employee Kimberly McMillan-Goodwin because she was restricted from lifting more than 10 pounds.

The lawsuit says McMillan-Goodwin performed her job for years with the restriction, but that when she returned from an absence due to injuries in a car accident, the company placed her on a one-year leave, then terminated her.

EEOC is seeking back pay and compensatory and punitive damages on behalf of McMillan-Goodwin.

Woodman’s Vice President Clint Woodman declined comment. Woodman’s operates 12 stores in Wisconsin and Illinois.
