Tragic case, but the facts make the out-of-court settlment appear excessive.

This woman presented at the ER complaining of a severe headache accompanied by “numbness” affecting her right side. A stroke was probably already in process. She was accurately diagnosed with a “congenital clotting condition” that restricted blood flow to her brain. According to hospital records, she received the appropriate treatment protocol. The fact she survived for 17 days suggests her condition was advanced and that a second stroke occured causing her untimely death. It is not at all uncommon for additional strokes to follow the first. That fact in concert with her pre-existiing congential condition made her a high risk patient under any circumstances. Unless there’s evidence of negligence, this may have been un-preventable.

She was “an aspiring artist” working as pharmacy tech meaning she had minimal income. You be the judge.
