A judge has sentenced a former Champaign, Ill., firefighter to four years of probation and 119 weekend days in jail.
The judge sentenced 51-year-old Monica Hall of Mahomet as part of a negotiated plea. Hall pleaded guilty to one count of arson. That means she admits that she set fire to a coworker’s vehicle while she was at the fire station and on duty.
Hall also admitted she set fire to her own vehicle to collect an insurance payment because of financial problems.
Hall’s attorney argued sentencing her to jail would setback her rehabilitation. Hall told the judge she disappointed her friends and family.
