Fire Destroys South Indiana Town’s Landmark Restaurant

Fire destroyed a landmark restaurant in the small southern Indiana town of Milltown as flames gutted the century-old building.

Firefighters needed several hours to extinguish the blaze at the Blue River Cafe in Milltown. Part of the roof collapsed on the two-story building, which had elaborate hardwood floors and tin ceilings and often hosted bands and art shows.

The restaurant in the town about 30 miles west of Louisville, Ky., was closed when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported. Milltown Police Chief Ray Saylor said the cause wasn’t immediately known.

Co-owner Debbie Woods said she was broken hearted over the fire and that the building was half the restaurant’s attraction.
