Even if the ladder didn’t meet some safety standards, it doesn’t necessarily follow it was defective and caused the fall. The article didn’t mention any defect. Over the years of handling these types of commercial claims, everyone who falls using a ladder alleges defect. Funny how nobody simply missed a step, slipped, or wasn’t paying attention. This was described as a “roof hatch ladder” that extended 19′. It was most likely attached to the roof hatch itself. Repairmen usually carry equipment that compromises their ability to safely ascend and descend ladders. They’re taught how to do it. It’s part of their trade. Judging by the amount of the award, this plft. generated a lot of sympathy.

Doesn’t OSHA standards state that after 8′ a person should be tied off?

This man’s life is ruined for not remembering a very simple rule.
