South Dakota officials say flood damage to homes in the state is not severe enough to warrant federal aid for individual property owners.
The conclusion was made after officials with the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency toured a 13-county area.
Officials say assessments of public infrastructure damage are still being compiled.
Gov. Mike Rounds earlier this week asked President Barack Obama to declare a disaster in much of South Dakota in the wake of widespread spring flooding. A declaration would pave the way for federal aid to help with the cost of infrastructure repairs.
