Monroe City, Missouri, Man Awarded $750K After Work Injury

April 26, 2010

A Monroe City, Mo., man has been awarded $750,000 after he was severely burned in an accident at the plant where he worked.

Greg Beaver was burned by molten aluminum on Nov. 9, 2004, while working at the Pace Industries plant in Monroe City, which has since closed.

He sued the former owner of the plant, Leggett & Platt, and Cintas Corp., which made the uniform Beaver was wearing when he was injured.

The Hannibal Courier-Post reports that Beaver said he wasn’t given protective equipment and was not told of his uniform’s safety limitations.

Leggett & Platt said the uniforms met federal safety requirements, and that Beaver knew about the uniform’s safety. And attorneys said Beaver didn’t follow proper procedures.
