Missouri Firefighter’s Widow Gets $40M in Suit Against Equipment Maker

The widow of a St. Louis, Mo., firefighter has received a jury award of more than $40 million after a company that made fire safety equipment lost its appeal.

Attorneys for the survivors of Derek Martin confirmed the award to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

A jury in 2007 awarded Angela Martin and her children $27 million in a judgment against Survivair Respirators Inc. and its parent company, Bacou-Dallloz S.A.

The Missouri Court of Appeals affirmed the jury verdict. The award was paid in January after growing with interest to $40.4 million.
