Minnesota Officials: Risk of Spring Flooding High

February 1, 2010

Minnesota officials are warning of high potential for spring flooding, although they say it’s unlikely to be as bad as last year.

Officials from the Department of Public Safety and the National Weather Service say a wet fall and snowy winter have raised the flood threat. They urge people to get flood insurance.

Last spring’s flooding was nearly disastrous in the Red River Valley, where the people of Fargo and Moorhead spent weeks sandbagging.

Officials say most homeowners don’t know that standard policies don’t cover flood damage. They say people should get flood insurance soon because it takes time for updated policies to go into effect.
