Jurors have awarded $750,000 to a Gary, Ind., woman who sued the city after she was hurt when a police cruiser hit her car.
Attorneys for Hazel Osborne say that she had the green light when she was struck by a police car going 60 mph. The officer says his lights and siren were operating, but two EMTs in a nearby ambulance say the warning signals were off.
Osborne sustained broken ribs and other injuries and sought $187,000 in damages.
The jury found in Osborne’s favor Sept. 9.
Gary City Attorney Carl Jones says the verdict is excessive and the city will appeal.
