The claim in our Michigan paper this morning is that this is a huge problem in this state. It appears to be a huge problem for the income of lawyers. Our Democratic government here hates insurance companies. Let’s drive out one of the few industries in the state still supplying jobs. That way we will have more park space in the cities that are to be bulldozed. Michigan is headed back to being all green space and no people. Should make the liberals out there happy.
The legislators are right that the Michigan law is not as restrictive as in other states and it probably needs some strenghtening but as usual they are over the top on these bills that would give the state the worst laws in the country.
Insurance continues to be the whipping boy in Michigan led by a governor that hates the industry.
Seriously, charge claims people with felonies if it is determined that a claim denial was not warranted? And who makes that determination? The plaintiff lawyer? “Your honor, please enter a summary judgement for my client, and then throw the adjuster, claims manager, VP and CEO in jail for 3-5 please for having a different opinion of the claims question than I do.”
I have said it before and I will say it again. The insurance industry is crooked. It always has been and always will be. I’ve been in the insurance business for 40 years and I don’t know how much more I can stand. A few others and I are pushing against the tide but we will be swept away.
Perhaps the good reverend might have an example or two; one would hope so with all that 40 years of experience you have in the insurance industry…if the injustice you have seen all this time is so bad, one must really wonder why you are still there?
riddle: what do you call someone who stands by and witnesses injustice for 40 years and does nothing?
answer: collaborator (or reverend in this case).
But Gov. Jenny is attracting dozens of jobs in the movie industry while those useless thousands of jobs disappear in other, less glamorous businesses. Come on and enjoy the farwell party for jobs in Michigan.
Examples? AIG, Equity Funding; too many to enumerate but these were big. For all these years I have been fighting for the industry to take the high moral ground and reform. Those of us that have been insisting on industry integrity are old, tired, retired, or resigned to the status quo and definitely outnumbered. There used to be a modicum of pride in being in the insurance business. Now, if anyone asks, I say that I play the piano in a whorehouse.
Just as I suspected Reverend, your answer is woefully short and pointless…..the AIG debacle had NOTHING to do with their insurance unit. Say a LIE enough times and it becomes YOUR truth, not mine. I would appreciate it if you did get out of the business.

…from “Dumb and Dumber” tells me what a cool place Michigan is to run a business, so it’s not?
They can’t balance the budget while the state’s economy goes down in flames but they have time for this?
Can they say “priorities”.
