With all of these problems, why was the CEO of Universal Casualty recently named the director of all Personal Lines for the “new” Kingsway Insurance? Claim handling like that comes from the top of the company.

I bet heads rolled at the bottom of the claims department. Just following the last administration’s lead; sacrifice the bottom of the ladder and promote the real wrongdoers. On and on…

Because the new CEO is as inept as Shaun Jackson was. The tough board member (Stilwell) needs to show some brass and stir this mess up. Romanz is arrogant and proud of their lowest rated claims service in the industry. Maybe he will meet his demise over time as the rest of teh country (outside) crooked Chicago weans him.

Oh yeah, Romanz’s daddy started Universal. His pride and reputation are riding on his maintenance of this position. If Colin Simpson has any fuzzys he will ship this guy home to his devaluing condo. Obviously I have dealt with these guys and I’m very glad to see others stepping up and discussing this corrupt organization.

Don’t assume the Chicago claims management model is legally portable to other states with different claims laws. Those of us with Chicago-based company experience understood this in the early 90’s.

Larry, you are right. they are rewarding every “yes man” in Kingsway with really cherry jobs with big fancy titles, and at the same time laying off the core of their claim departments.

Being a former employee of UCC I do believe that Stilwell should look into this compnay and do a complete house cleaning, from HR, claims mgr. down.
You have adjusters sitting on the computer answering personal emails or surfing the network. The philosophy of UCC is “let them file suit”, the theories of liability are asinine, claimant sitting at a red light rear ended by the insured the adjuster requests 100% the supervisor reviews the paperwork instructing the adjuster to offer 60% for failure to take evasive measures. The fact that over 90% of the insureds have no D/L or even speak English hampers the adjusters ability to handle the claim, in that they, UCC must have a statement from the insured to continue even on the smallest claim is what causes the backlog a majority of the insureds are undocumented aliens now they receive paperwork from UCC they RARELY return the paperwork because they are afraid of being undocumented. Their agents fail to inspect the auto before writing the full coverage policy, the insd then files a claim for vandalism the appraiser inspects the car and declares the vehicle a total when the original claim was for a stolen radio.. Then the claimants estimates are reviewed by the UCC PD Unit and they “butcher” the estimate, the PD Unit reviews the estimate and photos then write their sheets never having physically inspecting the vehicle this is nonsense. Try working in that environment, then compound that with the fact that you have a pending of 600+ files.

Is this how Kingsway wants to build their future? A US Personal lines Director who promotes unethical claim handling. Next thing you know they will appoint someone from Lincoln General to review all reserves to be sure they are proper.

My car was struck while PARKED in front of my home by an illegal immigrant drunk driver, that these snakes knowingly insured. It took them EIGHT months to deny my claim because the drunk illegal had no license, a fact which they knew from the onset because they knowingly insured her under one of their “non-standard” policies. After which, they sought a judgement AGAINST ME for having filed a claim at all. According to them, processing my claim cost them $30,000.00 which they felt I was liable for. Needless to say they lost their claim against me, but did in fact successfully get default judgements against a couple of the other VICTIMS the drunk hit, even though Universal Casualty Company never paid a dime. People like this are what’s wrong with America.

P.S. Currently, Universal Casualty Company has been forbidden from doing business in the following states, Indiana, Missouri and Illinois has fined them $200,000.00. Even though they represent roughly 1 percent of the auto insurance business in those states, they are #1 on the IDOI’s complaint index
