Detroit Police Officer Found Guilty of Auto Insurance Fraud

February 2, 2009

A Detroit police officer has been convicted of writing bogus accident reports to support fraudulent auto insurance claims.

Attorney General Mike Cox says 36-year-old Kevin Schuh of Brown City wrote up reports of accidents that either were misleading or never happened. Cox says Schuh’s name appeared on several accident reports at a body shop targeted in an auto fraud investigation.

Schuh was convicted of forgery and of uttering and publishing, each a 14-year felony; insurance fraud, a 10-year felony; and misconduct in office, a five-year felony.

Schuh faces sentencing Feb. 25 in Third Circuit Court in Detroit.
