so when the warnings came out, did they not heed? that is like suing NO for the major floods for loss of life because the levies could not hold back the water. sue the US army corp of eng because the levees were not strong enough. in fact, are they not responsible for many of our flood zones to have proper levees? but if mother nature exceeds what might be expected how are they held responsible? in fact, if a warning was said to move, would you actually sit? it took a disaster to rethink the idea. move when it comes time to go. how many lives have to be lost? how much property? in fact, this lawsuit claims that the river belongs to the sewer dept? WRONG! mother nature owns it. you decided to live in that area, knowing what disasters could happen. is that like also living near the airport and the airplane can fall from the sky? or living in the bahamas, knowing that every year there will definately be a hurricane. this will be tossed.

And WHERE was the daughter during all of this? I hope the sewer district sues her for malicious prosecution (and stupidity, sorry had to slip that in)!

Didn’t you know that the safest place to be in a storm is in your backyard watching the water rise.

What ever happened to the “Act of God” clause? Oh how stupid of me… you can’t sue God and win.

I agree that no entity should be responsible for an overflowing river from a hurricane. But, I just looked up an internet article:

“…Since the September floods MSD has reviewed 7,000 claims.

So far, MSD told News 4 it has paid out $8 million to flood victims.”

If they are not responsible for the river flooding, then why are they paying out claims?

She’d do better to say MSD conspired with President Bush, Dick Cheney, conservative members of Congress, The Illuminati, the Tri-Lateral Commission, the secret government lab responsible for the Pandemic/Avian Flu virus, and God to single out and target the poor, poor victim in this case.

Then maybe she could get some screaming people on her side to pressure the government into a settlement. If she plays her cards right she might even get a slightly-used FEMA trailer and a $2000 giftcard in addition to whatever settlement she’s able to wrestle out of the perpetrators of this, obviously, malicious and premeditated attack on her family.

I can’t wait for Obama to take office so we won’t have to worry about hurricanes anymore.

Actually, River Des Peres isn’t a river, it is a overflow concrete drainage system built to control overflow and back up from the Mississippi River…The Sewer Dept DOES control most of it. The entire sewer system in St. Louis is ancient and all needs to be replaced but, the cost to Metropolitan Sewer and the individual customers is billions…they are trying to make repairs but can’t replace all at once. University City where the drowning occured isn’t generally a flood zone but is subject to flash flooding at times. There is anyway two sides to the story.

Who exactly was it that was insisting Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were sound and actually got angry when they were questioned about the solvency of those two mortgage giants??

Google may be _your_ friend, but on these commentary board, facts or logic are not.

Wudchuck: Flash floods generally don’t allow for warnings. They don’t happen over days like a regular flood, they happen over minutes or hours.

As a past Iowa City resident, let me tell you what living through two major floods has taught me:

DON’T LIVE _IN_ A FLOOD PLAIN!
I suspect there are corrolaries to this like:
DON’T LIVE _IN_ A HURRICANE ZONE.
    and
TRY NOT TO LIVE _IN_ TORNADO ALLEY.

    That is all.
Please go back to your regularly scheduled political rantings.
