Federal agriculture officials have declared disasters in dozens of Wisconsin counties where floods and cold weather damaged crops. The designation makes financial assistance available to farmers, including low-interest loans.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s list includes 24 counties that were affected by this past spring’s floods, plus 15 contiguous counties. Also listed are 5 counties affected by combined frost, extreme cold and winterkill and 11 contiguous counties.
Eligible because of flooding: Adams, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Grant, Green Lake, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha, Lafayette, Manitowoc, Marquette, Milwaukee, Monroe, Racine, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Vernon, Walworth, Waukesha and Winnebago. Contiguous counties eligible: Brown, Calumet, Fond du Lac, Green, Iowa, Jackson, Kewaunee, La Crosse, Outagamie, Ozaukee, Portage, Washington, Waupaca, Waushara and Wood.
Eligible because of effects of frost, freeze, extreme cold and winterkill: Burnett, Lafayette, Polk, St. Croix, and Door. Contiguous counties eligible: Burnett, Chippewa, Dunn, Grant, Green, Iowa, Pierce, Rusk, Sawyer, Washburn and Kewaunee.
