Iowa’s U.S. senators have announced that more than $80 million in disaster aid is headed to eastern Iowa to help rebuild after this summer’s record flooding.
Republican Charles Grassley and Democrat Tom Harkin said that hard-hit Cedar Rapids, Keokuk, Palo and University of Iowa will get more than $80 million in FEMA funding for infrastructure repair.
Most of the money is going to the university for its power plant and technology laboratory, as well as repairs to its flooded-out arts building and museum.
Keokuk’s storm water pumps and Palo’s city hall also will get some money, as will Cedar Rapids’ Water Pollution Control Facility.
