The credibility of the people who keep coming out of the woodwork after 30-40 years with stories of alleged abuse should be questioned. I’ve read the comments of those who defend these people by saying victims of abuse need time to drum up the courage to come forward. “reasonable time” I agree; 30-40 years is pure bullsh_t. How long is enough? Why not let them wait until they’re 60 or 70……..is that sufficient time? When people hit their 30’s and 40’s they’ve had ample time an opportunity to cope with life’s problems. This ongoing queue of plaintiff spurred by the realization that there’s money to be had is getting real old.

I know for sure this is about the money; but I think that is appropriate: it was the only way to get the Church to acknowledge the initial problem and their role in exacerbating it through inaction when these came to light. Further, they tried to downplay it by circling their wagons! Too bad that the bishops who are the defacto managers for the organization did not recognize that they were putting their own enterprise at risk by condoning this situation because they could not turn their backs against “one of their own”… I have always been against frivolous lawsuits but this had merit from the start. I sympathize with the victims because the Church relied on the victim’s embarrassment to keep silent for so long; the Church did not learn or change from the abuses which lead to the reformation. The “holier-than-thou” attitude is still there. Just look at the continued lobby against abortion…talk about disingenuous…

Is just long enough for the priest to die or become infirm enough to be unable to defend themselves. And once one award is given for a particular priest, the claims start coming out of the woodwork. I am sorry, but it is awfully easy to pretend to have been abused years and years ago, and almost impossible to defend against it.

Mr Obvious (???) I was on the jury and heard all the evidence to prove what was done to Jim and believe me, there’s no pretense there. It’s people like you who judge without knowing the full story that makes you sound like the ignorant fool you are. Are you one of those priests too, *******? No wonder you’re sticking up for something that’s against morality.

Until you get filled with drugs and a hand shoved in you to abort a pregnancy you didn’t have control over, THEN YOU CAN TALK. Hurt has NO TIME LIMITS. Let that happen to someone you care about and see the “PRETENSE” in THEIR eyes and soul.

You find it inconceivable cause YOU weren’t raped and threatened. Let it happen to your daughter and you’ll find a way to conceive it. STOP JUDGING PEOPLE! Everyone is different and handle things the best way they can. Tell me someone you know don’t have a devasting secret that they can’t bring themselves to tell? Tell me youor someone you know don’t have something you haven’t kept to yourself because of embarassment, shame, guilt, hurt, and just not wanting to put your loved ones through. You can’t. Unless you’ve been there and believe me, you don’t want to, don’t condemn Jim.

Maddie, have you lost the mind God gave you?? I’m reading these posts and can’t believe the lack of compassion for others is in the majority. Would you believe your daughter, sister, friend, or anyone who finally reveals to you what they’ve been going through? Would you think they’re faking cause they didn’t prance around and announce to the world that a priest fondled them and tried to poke their ***? What planet are you from Ms. Perfect World that Nothing Bad or Perverse Ever Happens to?

DID ALL OF THE DIOCESE SUPPORTERS REALIZE THAT THERE WAS NEVER NEVER NEVER AN APOLOGY GIVEN TO JIM for this deviant abuse? Yeah, that’s the wonderful world these “supporters” live in. I just hope it never happened or happens to someone they care about. I guess then they’ll take off those very ROSY sunglasses and realize that priests are human beings–most wonderful and then there are the few that are bad no matter what their chosen life path is.

AH Diane, Patriot, Ray and Mr. Obvious you are the tiny voices of reason in a vast sea of chaos. The rest, unintelligent morons with no understanding of the complex issues with this case. They are your typical emotionally driven jurist just waiting to hand out money to others.
