I am glad to see Mr. Mitchell making a point with the city of Cedar Rapids. I had personally spoke with the building and zoning department aprx. 1 week before out of state contractors were allowed to work, and were told to be there (with equipment and personal) to help with clean up. We arrived the first day for out of state contractors, got certified, went to building and zoning and spoke with the employee that had my company come to her city and she sent me to the solid waste department. When I arrived at the solid waste department they told me they did not need any help and building and zoning did not know what they were doing. I meet with several local contractors, attented city council meetings, and spoke with local residences and business owners. Local contractors claimed they themselves could not help, local residences and business owners could not understand why we were not being put to work. The amount of material that needed to be removed was rediculous, especially to only see a handfull of people working. After attending the city council meeting it appeared that the city of Cedar Rapids was more interested in the city rather than taking care of their community and the residence that make Cedar Rapids. While at the meeting no one could get an ansewer if they were going to be able to keep their property or demo their property, it seemed to me all they wanted was an ansewer, either way would be fine, they just wanted to know what to do. I hope to see an agency get involved in this catastrophy, and award the contracts to the qualified bidders, so the city does not hord up all the money, just so they can purchase all the property in the 100 year flood just to call it green property owned by the city. There needs to be a stop put to the “who you know b.s.”. Obviously I am not a local but what little time I was there it was terrible to see what the city council was trying to do. Good Luck to Bamaco Inc. hope they open some eyes!
