Why in the world would the State Fund allow these employers to fall that far in arrears on WC premiums? Shouldn’t they be operated like a company? You don’t pay your bill, you don’t have coverage and your claims are denied!!!
I believe Ohio is a monopolistic state. If this in fact the case here we have another government program underfunded and full of problems. Can the injured worker sue the employer if the benefits are not paid? To me $235,000,000 in back premiums seems like a lot of money. To Ohio it must not be an issue. Who will pay the cost of the compliance for the deadbeats/ Is this another example of why we do not want the goverment in the insurance business?
I agree the state should do more to collect the premium however to CJ’s comment. If the state were to cancel coverage for non payment the only people they would be hurting are the employees who are voters in the state. A downside to the state running the work comp program.
Easy– the state has the authority to shut down the business who does not pay. This solves the problem – no work – no injuries. I agree the govt should not be in the ins business.
