It never ceases to amaze me the ignorance of the so called professionals (agents)who’ve never taken a flood class – in spite of the numerous opportunities to attend FEMA/NFIP sponsored Flood classes.
It’s time the E&O carriers start to surcharge P&C agents/agencies that haven’t taken a flood course.
You must not know…continuing ed in Iowa requires Flood and Ethics courses. Why don’t you just come to Iowa and look at some of the areas that were flooded. Never in a million years would you have guessed.
“Section 207 of the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004 required all insurance agents who sell flood insurance policies meet minimum educational standards. A September 1, 2005, directive sent to agents across the country detailed the requirements of the act and set the deadline by which the required flood education was to be complete.”

All agents are required by Federal laww to take a flood course before the end of 2008 (I think).
Even if the structure is on top of a mountain it is at risk of flooding due to runoff from a significant amount of rain therefore everyone is in a flood zone. The preferred risk flood policy for structures outside a special flood hazard ares is very reasonally priced.
