Why not opt out of the Flood program if you can rejoin in six months after a Disaster is declared and claim past losses? Talk about adverse selection. Maybe the Federal Government should run all types of insurance coverages because I want to be able to NOT pay for insurance until I need it. Especially auto insurance as it’s very high out here in Arizona. I’d rather purchase it after I get in an accident and then file past claims. Give me a Break!

By rejoining the individuals DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE. They can participate in the federal low cost loan programs to rebuild. They must take out the flood insurance before they start rebuilding.

It is no deal for the individuals. It will help the local public safety departments collect from the Federal Government for their expense.

Why allow them back in after the fact? They opted out of the program & should be made to answer to the people that cannot participate in the programs. It should become a local issue, not a federal one.

    STUPID!!!
I guess they figure that since there was so many in Louisiana that didn’t have any Flood coverage & FEMA mailed out those folks with living expenses, debit cards, motels & hotels, FEMA Trailers, health insurance, etc… so they don’t have to pay for anything other than their alcohol, tobacco & drugs (other than scripts)… what a deal!

Talk about an entitlement mentality that is spreading like AIDS across America…

I’m sorry folks but this is just plain STUPID!

    Note to Madame Inspector,

People in Louisiana had flood insurance that more than the national average.

OK – so you know it all – how come there are so many that needed FEMA to come in & pay for a portion of their losses & the federal funds were into the billions if they had coverage?

You should be able to answer that since you have the national averages for flood coverages & can enlighten us all.

They are still not rebuilding in some areas & haven’t even cleaned up all the mess from almost 3 years ago, but you say they had coverage.

Saints Fan said they were above the national average (I read somewhere it is 17%), he didn’t say everyone had it. There is nothing in your post about the people who did have flood coverage and have rebuilt. Besides, this is an article about Wisconsin, not Louisiana.

You know… sometimes folks take a look at what has happened to help them prepare for what could happen & since it happened the way it did in Louisiana I bet the folks in Wisconsin would rather not pay for something they can get for free or at least after the fact…

How about you – you wanna pay for some insurance on what might or could happen or would you rather not pay for insurance until it does happen?

I guess if you waited to pay for it until after it happenes, then you can be better aware of the coverages you need in place to cover that loss.

Yeah, I know the article is about WI & not LA, but LA is a prime example of what can happen & how the federal government doles out funds to those that didn’t take care of what they should have to begin with.

Alot of the folks that lived in LA were on a fixed or low income already & probably the govt paid out for section 8 housing for them & the property owners were the ones that were not taking care of what they needed to in order to protect their own assestts, but FEMA bailed them out & gave them $.

WI however is now given the option to wait until a catastrophic loss to buy the coverage – where was that option for LA?

I guess the FEMA $ can buy their post dated insurance now – so the taxpayers are still the ones that foot the bill for the ones that don’t take care of it themselves.

I sure hope they will get something like that going nationwide as I bet there are a lot of folks that would opt out until it is a need & think about the $ they save in the mean time!
