Indiana Insurance Moves Safer Schools Seminars to Iowa and Minnesota

Indiana Insurance, a Liberty Mutual Agency Markets regional company, recently announced that it is taking its Safer Schools Seminars to Iowa and Minnesota in May.

Designed for superintendents, principals, resource officers, and risk managers, these free, half-day seminars inform school officials on how to improve security, prevent educator sexual misconduct, and create safer learning environments. The Safer Schools Seminars run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon with registration and continental breakfast at 8:30 am at the following venues:

• Monday, May 12, Iowa Western Community College, Looft Hall, Council Bluffs, Iowa;
• Tuesday, May 13, St. Olaf College, Buntrock Commons-Viking Theater, Northfield, Minn.;
• Wednesday, May 14, Iowa State Center, Scheman Building-Room 275, Ames, Iowa; and,
• Thursday, May 15, Kirkwood Community College, KTOS Center-Room 133, Marion, Iowa.

Indiana Insurance has provided the safer school seminars in Illinois and Indiana saying that high profile and recurring school violence and cases of educator sexual misconduct are crimes that are at the forefront of concern for educators, law enforcement, parents, and students.

“These seminars allow schools to gauge their preparedness and procedures,” said Steve Munro, loss prevention manager, Indiana Insurance. “There is much that can be done to improve safety and security without busting a school’s budget. It starts with an attentive, well-trained staff and implementing and enforcing strong policies and practices.”

According to data compiled by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, approximately four million students are injured at school each year. Injuries are most likely to occur on playgrounds, athletic fields, in gymnasiums, and during shop classes, where seven percent of school injuries occur. Falls are the most frequent cause of school-associated injuries resulting in hospitalization.
