we all, or most of know that when you say atlanta that is atlanta, ga…but where in the world is CAIRO, as far many of us know, that is in EGYPT. surely it’s not the midwest. so whoever, wrote this article is like wondering the jack in the box is truly jack or the monkey?

The Cairo this article is referring to is in northwestern Ohio and pronounced kay-ro. It certainly is in the Midwest.

However, I agree that the author should have picked a slightly better-known city in the same region, like Toledo.

Actually, there are Cairos in GA, IA, MO, NE, NY, OH, OR, WV, as well as Old Cairo, MS and South Cairo, NY. However, the Cairo (Kay’ Ro) that is the focus of this article is found at the exteme southern tip of Illinois at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. It is located in the New Madrid (Maaa’ drid) earthquake zone. Occasionally it is a rockin’ place to live.

You’re probably right, since the article then goes on to talk about Southern Illinois – although that quake WAS felt in Cairo, Ohio.
