All of the affected employees worked at or near a station at the plant called the “head table,” where workers used compressed air to blow brains out of pig skulls. I never knew people were employed to do this! What exactly is the purpose? Do we use the pig skulls for something? Do we use pig brains for something? Maybe I really don’t want to know the answers…good Lord, I am grateful for the career I have…

I think if most people saw what goes on in a meat packing plant, like the process described in this article, they would become vegetarians ! I think those pig brains are what goes into sausages and hot dogs ! haha ! I eat fish but no red meat or poultry, primarily for health reasons due to the chemicals that go into meat and poultry and the horrible conditions in which alot of them are raised and processed. Also, since this is Earth Day week, keep in mind, eating veg is much kinder to the environment – go green, eat green ! :)

The brains are usually used to make animal feed that goes back to other pigs, cows and chickens. This is the same process used for cows that causes the risk of mad cow disease (though obviously a cow can’t get mad cow disease from pig brains).

You may wish to rethink your stance on what is “green”. Most fish sold in America come from fish farms that put tons of chemicals, antibiotics and colorants into their fish. They also contribute greatly to algae blooms. Even non-farmed fish are usually caught in such a way as to greatly damage the environment – drag nets that destry coral beds, nets that catch non-wanted species that are left to die, wastes from the boats dumped into the ocean. You must also consider that fish are a primary source of mercury in the human diet.

Even going vegan doesn’t help unless you rigorously source your food. If one simply says “I will only eat vegetables” they are most likely contributing to the decline in diversity, soil retention and increase in pollution seen from modern farming methods. Even eatin all “organic” doesn’t help as factory-system organic producers are only slightly better than convential farmers.

Only by eating locally grown food that adheres to sustainable practices can you ensure minimal impact on the environment. This would include eating meats grown sustainably as livestock is a vital part of a healthy eco-system. Since American diets are: not seasonal; not centered around native foods; not easy to source locally and; centered around quick preperation, don’t expect to see any changes soon.

Karol Lynn, you make me laugh. You are subject to more chemicals from your vegatables that you are from Old MacDonalds Prime Rib. Chemicals are used to control the weeds in the feild, chemicals are used as fertilizer to help grow your vegatables and give them their pretty color, chemical are used to treat the water that is used to irrigate your vegatables. Guess what happens to all of those chemicals? They get sucked up into the vegatables by the root system.

Who needs Larry the Cable Guy when you can just listen to you greenies.

The same stuff that you’re not supposed to inhale is sprayed on the crops.
Guess eating it vs inhaling it is better for big business?

There are reasons the rate of Autism and other neurological disorders is closer to 1 in 80 then anyone wants to admit. And being a veggie or red meat eater doesn’t seem to make a difference. The same chemicals used to treat the crops are used to treat the fields the cows graze from. Mercury in fish, mercury in vaccines.

There is no way to avoid it.

I acknowledge your decision to eat only vegetables. However, I think it is rediculous. I’ve eaten meals where no meat was served. They just aren’t satisfying. Meat is delicious. As pointed out by some of the other posters, your going to get your dose of chemicals from somewhere. Live life and enjoy it while you can.

Can’t help but laugh at your post laughing, with all the spelling errors I could barely even understand what you were attempting to say. I was a vegetarian (true veggie, no meat, fish, chicken, etc. but ate dairy) for 15 years and it was great. Been eating all types of meat now for 7 years and i love it. It doesn’t really matter what one eats or doesn’t as we are all going to die one day so enjoy everything now.
