Now if we could just get more states to be so interested in certificates violations. I have lost a few clients over the years, mostly contractors, because I would not fake info on a certificate and another agent would.

Stoping the violations, or at least making an agent think twice about fraud, will help all of us be on the same playing field.

I am amazed at some of the requests I get, such as those wanting part of the cancellation provisions crossed out, or wanting “primary/non-contributory” language added. I often think if some of the carriers would audit their agents files, they would be amazed at what is out there without their knowledge.

In my agency we do not issue any additional insured certificates with out adding the additional insured endorsement and any other endorsements to a clients policy, ie waiver, primary wording, etc. Sure the client has to pay for it, but I would MUCH rather the client pay for it than me with an E&O.
